Keith Reveley's stable star Tazbar proved much too good for his rivals in the Bet With Blue Square Mobile Novices' Chase at Doncaster.
The eight-year-old was sent off the 13-8 favourite having won two of his three previous starts over fences, his only defeat coming at the hands of Long Run in the Feltham Novices' Chase at Kempton on Boxing Day.
As Bedlam Boy cut out the early running, the trainer's son James Reveley elected to bide his time on Tazbar, but was ideally placed turning for home.
Bedlam Boy did his best to burn off his rivals over the remaining fences but he could not match the finishing kick of Tazbar, who took over at the second last and finished full of running to score by 14 lengths.
"We were obviously no match for Long Run at Kempton but I wouldn't mind taking him on again on a bit of good ground," said Reveley senior.
"The RSA Chase is the plan but the ground is the key to this horse as he really wants genuine good ground.
"He's got away with good to soft here but Doncaster good to soft is different to anywhere else as it's a track that drains well.
"This horse is a little star and I was over the moon with how he jumped today as he was very professional.
"Bedlam Boy set a good pace, which probably helped us a bit, but I have to say I'm surprised how well he's done it as I thought he might get out-speeded.
"We'll have to look at Cheltenham now but it really does depend on the ground."
Ferdy Murphy, trainer of the runner-up, said: "Graham (Lee) was very pleased with Bedlam Boy.
"He jumped well and travelled well, but he said the winner's a machine.
"He'll improve a little bit for the race, but not a great deal and we might go the handicap route. I'll discuss it with Graham and see what we do."
Nicky Henderson trained the third home You're The Top and the fourth-placed Dave's Dream and his representative Ben Pauling added: "You're The Top travelled well and jumped well, but it just looked as if perhaps two miles is his trip, so we'll have to see.
"Dave's Dream fell asleep and by the time he got going, Tazbar had gone and the race was over."
William Hill left Tazbar unchanged at 25-1 for the RSA Chase at Cheltenham in March, while Sky Bet cut him to 16s.
